SKG: Mr. S K Gupta, known to his Friends and Colleagues as SKG, is a 1962 batch M.E. with ‘Distinction’ from the famous Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He did his ‘Finishing School’ from the well-known Scindia School, Gwalior during 1954-’58.
His love affair with Cars really started when he was only 7-years old, soon after the family got its first Car, an imported (CBU) ‘Austin-8′ in January 1948. By the time he was ten, he could manually crank this machine, start it and generally ‘keep it warm’ as per his father’s instructions while he was away on an extended postings. Three cheers to his (late) Dad for entrusting such a ‘dangerous responsibility’ on to a kid as young as 10.
During the last 40+ years, SKG has either owned or helped maintain practically all makes of Indian Cars, including the present generation ‘mpfi’ ones. For starters, he owned and maintained one of the Country’s first Mopeds, a ‘Vicky/50cc’, followed by a ‘Jawa/250cc’. During his heydays, he even got some ‘over speeding’ tickets riding his Jawa in the mid sixties, at the hands of the then ever vigilant Madras Traffic Police!
SKG has also essayed scores of automobile-related articles in the country’s leading print and online media. He is our automobile expert. So go ahead and shoot your two or four-wheeler related queries at him and be assured of a prompt response.
